Work repeaters world-wide via the internet with: Echolink |
||
|
EchoLink is a ham radio internet communications systems that allows hams anywhere in the world to connect to Echolinked repeaters and simplex radios anywhere else in the world. To do this, the user must have a computer with internet access. Echolink freeware must be installed, and a microphone (Electret condenser element type) must be plugged into the mic jack on the soundcard. Speakers, or headset type earphones must be plugged into the line-out jack. Inexpensive (less then $10) headset earphones with an attached boom mic work very nicely. With the setup described the user can select from a directory showing any world-wide linked repeater, user call, or conference-room. Click on your choice and in a second or two you can be on the air talking to fellow hams in some far away place. Two Pilgrim ARC club members, Paul, WA1JSE and Carl, W1PY, have installed interface boards to link the Provincetown 147.255 MHz and Dennis 146.955 repeaters on Cape Cod. These links have been established primarily to allow club members and other hams living away from the cape a way to talk to their ham friends on the cape. |
